Notes From Off Center: Dumbest Man Alive?

  • Beyondwords · 1 year ago
Hummmm....is it okay to disparage a political candidate on a billboard and keep the church's tax-exempt status?
  • Ben · 1 year ago
I am a pastor of a fairly large pentecostal church in south carolina and while I urge my people to pray and ask God who he would lead them to vote for, I feel this sign is totally inappropriate! If he wants people to think about the candidates, and be fair about it, though I wouldn't put anything at all, he should put something about them all, it seems there's some unanswered questions with all the candidates, democrats and republicans!!!! If his members want him to preach his feeling from the pulpit that is one thing, but to place it on a billboard only lowers christians to the mud slinging campaign style of all the candidates!

Well, their first names are a bit similar! What marvellous grounds for a reasoned debate. This guy is the worst kind of idiot - one who can't do research or think for himself.

    Well, I don't care. http://jonesvillechurchofgod.com

The dumbest man alive? Nah, he's jus a moron. That title belongs to each and every one of the sheep in his congregation that voted to keep the sign up. Just another data point for religion being the worst hoax ever perpetated on mankind.
  • Drew Tatusko · 1 year ago
If it is a hoax Jeremy, then it would have to be the best and most effective ever right?

Give Roger Byrd a call on his cell:

I would assume that his congregation are even dumber to listen to him
  • Drew Tatusko · 1 year ago
Probably Doug. And since your name is Chaplin, that must mean that you are a chaplain, which means that you indeed are a priest as was asserted earlier this week :-)
  • Nick Norelli · 1 year ago
But it all makes so much sense... Doesn't it? :?
  • Sally · 1 year ago
Sounds like a fat red neck pedophile.
  • Dave · 1 year ago
Wow....you should really be ashamed to play his name that way. If there is a God..... he/she knows that your dishonesty and mean-spiritedness are truely some of the worst qualities in man. I'm very disappointed....though sadly, not surprised.

It is amazing that there are so many uninformed, ignorant people out there. This is why Barack Obama is still not able to close the nomination because there is, scarily enough, a huge number of people in this country who don't really want or care for change. It is so easy to believe he's a Muslim (and hate him for that and hence reject his candidacy) than to learn more about what he stands for and if he has what it takes to be the leader of the free world. A bunch of lazy ass in this country, if you ask me. No wonder our society is deteriorating, more prisons than schools, more money being spent on fighting this stupid war than building our infrastructure and economy. The general view of the outside world of Americans is not that far from the truth, lazy and arrogant. If we were a little less lazy and a little bit more involved then we would have questioned our leaders and held them accountable and not be so scared and believe everything we're told. If America doesn't wake up this time, then we are going to be the next Mexico - small number of super wealthy and everyone else working for the super wealthy.

    Julie,

And on the opposite end of the spectrum, there are those folks who are ignorant enough to vote for Obama just because he's black, regardless of his qualifications or politics. I was watching the evening news last night and I'd estimate about 85%-90% of the black voters interviewed said that they were voting for Obama because they liked the idea of a black man running the country.

Can you believe the audacity of this guy thinking he can actually practive freedom of speech in this country...I guess unless it applies to a liberal huh?
  • Drew Tatusko · 1 year ago
Otherside, he can say whatever he wants. The issue is that it is a stupid statement to make. If a liberal said "Bush rhymes with Tush therefore he is an ass" and then backed it up as a serious argument, I would say the same thing.

Of course, this does not even go into the theological problem of putting this crap on a church sign!

Roger Byrd/Goonie Bird---Humm They are related

This pastor has every right to put nearly any statement he wants on his church's sign. Free speech, right? Of course, I have the right to say it's embarrasing to see an elderly man and leader of a church in the 21st century make such an outlandish and idiotic comparison. I'm embarrased because it didn't come from an 8-year-old and it WASN'T politically or racially motivated. This guy actually believes there's reason to dig into the similarity, beyond coincidence. I think this quote from Jim Carrey's character in "Dumb and Dumber" sums up this thought-provoking man of the times and his question: "Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose." Roger Byrd's purpose -- to make us laugh. Thanks Rog.

    RE: Free speech, right?

As Beyondwords said: Hummmm….is it okay to disparage a political candidate on a billboard and keep the church’s tax-exempt status?

    I'd say no.

If we're "ALL children of God", hmmm.... doesn't that make the Pastor and Osama brothers as well? I think the pastor has lost sight of the message he is supposed to be delivering:

Jesus dealt with many aspects of human life but the one that he spent longest on was the need for love. His focus was not just on the love for our friends and family, but something much more challenging, a love that tests every nerve and sinew.

"Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." (Matthew 5:44)

He spoke of a love for those who we want to hate, a love for those who already hate us. This love requires effort, and strain, and every ounce of self-command that man can summon up.

I live here in Union, and I used to play the piano in that church. We pick at him all the time. I think it is funny, it almost got the Church of God into REAL trouble. And the thing that I find the funniest is that he put hummmmmm... LOL. He's just stuck 30 years in the past. He thinks drums in the church is a sin.

    Church of God
